The outbreak of locusts poses a huge threat as a natural and food security disaster in affected provinces. The Agri SA’s Disaster Relief Foundation made R780 046 available to mobilise aerial support, and spraying equipment and provide PPEs to the operating teams on the ground. The 2021/2022 locust outbreak was regarded as one of the worst outbreaks in 25 years affecting the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces.

Agri SA and its affiliates have a good working relationship with the Department of Agriculture Rural Development and Land Reform on locust control to ensure a rapid and effective response to this disaster. This will mitigate crop losses and damage to pastures that will threaten jobs and food security at large.

We particularly want to thank Transnet, Kaap Agri, Sanlam, Santam, Standard Bank, Free State Agriculture and private donations received to make success of this initiative.
